Waste Conveyor Belt Systems
Waste conveyor belt systems (also known as dunnage conveyor belt systems) are conveyors that are used for the movement of waste products from inside a building to a waste skip or compactor. Waste conveyors are commonly used in warehouse operations to move cardboard or plastic packing materials out of the warehouse, removing a lot of manual activity for operators to perform.
Waste conveyors are used when inbound packages such as boxes or plastic bags need to be unpacked, if for example, the product inside is in multiple quantities. The items are generally unpacked from a box known as a shipper, the products can then be put into storage, or packed straight away and shipped for a customer order. This process produces waste cardboard material, which would need manual handling, This presents a lot of operating cost to a business, just to handle waste material. So, there is a very good return on investment (ROI) on waste handling systems, as they can remove the manual handling cost of the waste material.
Typically a waste (or dunnage) conveyor system will be a high level belt type conveyor. The reason they are usually high level is because they sit above the conveyors that bring the boxes or bags of product to the operators for unpacking. So generally waste conveyor systems are part of a multi tier conveyor solution, but not always. The width of the conveyor belt is determined by the size of box that is to be handled. The belt width will generally be sized to allow the maximum waste product size to be conveyed without being broken down, this is to avoid any jams occurring. Any waste product over the specified maximum size would need to be broken down by the operators.
Operators would throw the waste material onto the high level conveyor, the conveyor would then transport the product to an opening in the wall of the warehouse, where the conveyor would pass through. Outside the waste material would then either drop into a skip or compactor.
